Who is Stan Parsons?

Stan Parsons is a retired community banker who has always had a passion for writing fiction.

Upon retiring he moved full-time to his cottage in Ophelia, in the Northern Neck of his native Virginia, to chase his dream of writing novels.

Where is Ophelia, Virginia?

About a mile or two from the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River. Not a place you pass through while traveling. If you're here, either you were coming to Ophelia, or you got lost.

Why does Stan write Historical Fiction and Coming of Age?

When asked, Stan said "On Historical Fiction, I focus on the Great Depression and WWII. I was raised by the generation that dealt with those traumatic events. I heard about them all my life, respect that generation, and decided to write about it."

As for Coming of Age, Stan says he knows people who display traits he desires. They are good listeners, show interest in and care for others, they’re helpful, and they love. They are joyful and content.

He has watched others around those sorts of folks become aware of these qualities and begin to develop them. He’s seen how they support each other, deal with problems and tragedies, and grow. He admires that. He craves it!

His books have some characters like that, and some others who follow their example and begin to grow into alert, forgiving, tender, steady, and honest folks. These type people consistently focus on others - - the more they pour out, the more they seem to have. They possess, and they live, Values.

He says he writes of folks Coming Of Age, growing and maturing, because he yearns for it himself!

What does Stan do in Ophelia?

Life got in the way of his passion for writing until he retired and moved to Ophelia, where, for a while, he frolicked on the water, volunteered, and relaxed.

Then he got serious about writing! First, he polished up What Happened, Randi? and The Children’s Rights War, two books he managed to write while working full time. Then, he set a novel in the Northern Neck, CoriAnn Aground. Next, Stan wrote another novel set here, The Stovepipe Chess Club - - but rather than in the present, almost all of it is set in 1931.

He liked writing about the Great Depression and his next book, God Sent A Tramp, is also early 1930’s but mostly in West Texas. In Summer of 2020, As The Dust Falls, sequel to God Sent A Tramp and the 2nd book in that series, was released. The 3rd, Blossoming, was released May 13, 2021. He took a break from Gannaby to write the mystery novella, Secrets of The Ridges. It was published in March 2022 as an Artificial Intelligence audio book. An EBook may follow.
Stan is now writing the 4th book in the Gannaby series.

Character-driven Historical Fiction and Coming of Age have become his primary genres. He enjoys the research, using dialogue to show what characters think and feel, and describing settings and scenes.

In 2018 he flirted with reading his work into a microphone and discovered that he enjoys narrating. Audible.com has published two of his author-read audio books, The Stovepipe Chess Club and What Happened, Randi. However, Sound Technology, a huge leg of creating audio books, wore him out. He may do God Sent A Tramp next, and perhaps some of his other books, but it’s doubtful. His focus is back on writing.

In 2022 he moved to Alexandria, a relocation that surprised even him. A new grandchild was involved.
